Wind-Helmet: Safety helmet harnessing wind power
Naresh Chauhan | Mar 3 2009

With the amount of energy that our various gadgets consume each day, a mobile charging solution is always more than welcome. The “Wind-Helmet” is a concept by Malaysian Wai Hoong Leng. As the tag indicates, the Wind-Helmet is a recharging solution for bikers/bicyclists. Not that there’s a dearth of charging solutions for those using bikes, but as the designer says, all of these require extra equipment to be carried, while a helmet is always, well, there. In the Wind-Helmet, the wind power is harnessed as in a conventional windmill. A propeller and motor are embedded in a safety helmet and the energy is readily created and stored. Obviously, the higher the velocity, the greater the energy produced and stored. Leng’s idea at once strikes us as simple and viable. Make this and even at the risk of coming across as an obvious geek, people will queue up.
