The Rock Unveils At the Wellington Airport
Ritu | Feb 20 2008

The Rock’ is the name of the $39 million worth extension to the international terminal, the design for which was revealed by the Wellington Airport. Amidst various criticisms on the design front, the project aims at making dramatic improvements by adding quite a number of facilities and doubling the traffic capacity of the terminal. Though the building is considered to have certain iconic qualities but it does not match its exact definition of iconography. By mixing the images of shell and rock, it ends up creating an art that is not probable, as rock does not go well in an airport.

Some people would call it a misshapen structure, wrongly placed! The copper-based exterior would require a proper finish so that the building does not look too glossy, while maintaining the copper shade beautifully. The interior is a pleasant change as compared to its exterior. The ceiling looks fantastic with glass lines cut intricately into the shell while the surface is paneled to give it a neat look.
