The great philosopher Aristotle had observed that all art is essentially an imitation of life. I subscribe to the theory but even I never thought I’d ever be presented with a piece of art as surreal as this. The sculpture named “The Ancient Tree” is made by designers Christ & Gantenbein for the JinHua Architectural Park. The piece is supposed to appear like a time-warped old tree but to be honest, aesthetically, the concept freaks me out with the realization that we might not actually have enough ancient trees in the future and might have to resolve to building such artificial, concrete alternatives instead!
