Space-saving dining set from Naho Matsuno

The modern apartment-dweller is always pressed for space. That makes multi-purpose, easy-to-store furniture a rage. Here is a fresh idea from Japanese designer Naho Matsuno. See the cube in the picture? Who will ever guess that it hides as many as 6 stools?! So when you host a crowd of guests, simply take the cube out and make provisions for 6 people to sit. When they are gone, stash them back into the cube. The 35×35cm Cube 6 is hardly conspicuous. Imagine the amount of space six stools would have taken up otherwise. This birchwood and maple dining set was a star attraction at the Salone Satellite at the recently-concluded Milan Furniture Fair.

You have a choice in this too. There is a 3-stool version, Cube 3, from the same designer. 3 stools stacked inside a small cube that takes up very little space. The only difference is that each of these 3 stools has 2 legs and a flat side in place of the 2 legs. Chairs in both versions have a little hole on the surface.

Genuis! Its simple and sleek design would satisfy even the most sophisticated of apartment dwellers. They could even be painted to match any decor.
