Soma’s thematic pavilion claims top spot at Yeosu Expo 2012
Naresh Chauhan | Oct 31 2009

Winner of the Yeosu Expo 2012 in South Korea, Soma’s thematic pavilion is just an ideal interpretation of the theme, “The Living Ocean and Coast,” which aims to create an iconic landmark integrated into its urban context and the surrounding nature. Featuring continuous surfaces that twist from vertical to horizontal orientation and create two exhibition spaces with contrasting spatial qualities, the pavilion presents a transition between contrasting experiences to form its sparkling exterior. The conglomeration of solid vertical cones defines a new meandering coastline toward the sea, while on the other side, the pavilion emerging from the ground transforms into an artificial roof landscape with gardens and scenic paths. The topographic lines of the roof become lamellas of the kinetic media facade facing the entrance and the digital gallery of the expo.
