Skystation gives an entirely different perspective of the surroundings
Naresh Chauhan | Jul 8 2009

Initiated by Futurecity, which works toward regenerating run-down, brownfield and post-industrial areas in towns and cities across the UK, the “Skystation” by artist Peter Newman is a unique public seating concept that allows the public to gaze up at the sky and gain a different perspective of the surroundings. The Skystation, drawing inspiration from iconic LC4 chaise lounge by Le Corbusier, makes use of contours to fit the reclining human figure. Presented at the Hayward Gallery, London, as part of a larger public seating project, the Skystation is an outdoor seating unit that encourages passersby to lie down and contemplate the vast expansive space around them. The Futurecity will place Skystations in 100 locations, not just in the UK but worldwide, as part of their “100 places project.”
