Germbuster makes your hands germ-free anytime, anywhere
Naresh Chauhan | Dec 7 2009

With contagious diseases spreading thick and fast across the world, hand hygiene becomes an important matter for everyone. Addressing the issue, designer Philipp Maul has designed an antibacterial hand cleaning device called “Germbuster” that uses eight different antibacterial Softlaser diodes to clean the hands. Accumulating the diodes on the inner surface, the device sterilizes the hands within just 10 seconds. The Germbuster also integrates two handholds on its flip-side to position your hands comfortably. Moreover, you may collapse the gadget for safe as well as easy transportation, allowing germ-free hands anytime, anywhere.

A few class one (keychain quality) lasers are not going to destroy the most fragile of bacteria. The ”soft” refers to the fact that they are unable to cause significant heating, which means they have to work by catalyzing chemical reactions. What can dim red lights catalyze? Not much. You would do better to hold your hands up to the sun and get some UV light on them.

Minor terminology point- ”Sterilize” means destroy all life (like pressure cooking or bleach). ”Sanitize” means reduce pathogen numbers a little. ”Placebo” means it makes you feel better.
