James Dyson has come up with a creative solution to prevent milk from spoiling for an extra week in a much greener way. Dubbed as “Fresh,” this shrinking jug keeps the milk fresh for a longer period by not allowing it to get in contact with the air, which is the main reason for its spoilage. Based on simple functioning, this ergonomically designed flexible jug shrinks in size on pushing down a button on the top, along with the entire jug to pour out the milk, releasing the air and thus keeping milk fresh each day after every pour, unlike other milk jugs. The Fresh integrates a steel rim with ridges that tightly screws the lid and the spring wire frame enables full contraction. Considering user comfort, this airtight jug avoids wastage, saving time and money with a fewer number of trips to the store.

I’ve seen dry food savers advertised on cheap TV ads with a similar ”accordion” shrink concept. This one, as is usual with Dyson, is a lot more technically sophisticated.
It does appear intriguing, but as with those other squashable plastic containers, there is the cleaning issue. Have to see and handle one in person.
I wonder at the kind of plastic being used? Even extended, the inside walls might have uneven edges that would require careful scrubbing?
Since the purpose is to be able to keep milk longer, that means an increased possibility of bacteria growth, so thorough cleaning before adding milk would be even more important. And if the plastic is not top quality, it might leach BPA or other chemical? into the milk.
I’ll be waiting to hear what users experiences was and testing of milk over time. Clever idea though.
