Dominic Wilcox’s xylophone bin
Nithya N | Sep 5 2008

Here’s a marvelous piece of art by designer Dominic Wilcox called the Xylophone bin. This one beats the regular bins because of its state of the art modifications. Simply press the pedal at the bottom and the lid opens releasing a ball which moves down the haphazard set of steps around the bin. Each time the ball hits a step, a note is played and the note gets deeper as the ball gets closer to the bottom.

Created for a Vipp Charity auction in NewYork this item intends to raise money for Chernobyl Children’s Project International and Foodbank NYC. As part of the auction event, Vipp bins have roped in artists, designers and celebrities including Bono, Michael Stipe and Helena Christensen, to customize their own Vipp pedal bin at the Conran shop, New York from 4th - 17th September 08, followed by an auction on 18th September 08. So by purchasing this, not only do you have a stylish trash can but you are also supporting a good cause!
