CASA de RETIRO ESPIRITUAL: Architectural marvel in Spanish countryside
Gagandeep | Jul 30 2008

Scenic Sierra Morena Mountains all around, a man-made lake nearby and natural life forms uninhibited: that’s a rosy picture alright. But picture perfect would be an iconic landmark amidst all this! Head to Spain and there 40Km to the north of Seville you’ll come across CASA de RETIRO ESPIRITUAL. Designed by the acclaimed architect Emilio Ambasz this quaint structure was created in 1975. It is iconic with two mirror-like white walls rising from the lush green grounds, meeting at right angle. A cantilevered staircase provides access to a window overlooking the lake. The walls rise over a mysteriously sunken courtyard; almost a dungeon were it not for the brilliantly lit and spatial area. The rooms will engage the curiosity and leave visitors even more dumb struck with hidden arrangements and light coming in through serpentine opening. The design has won several international architecture awards and has also been made subject of at least two books. The façade is reminiscent of the “primeval notion of the abode” and is an accurate depiction of the artistic vision that Ambasz created this one with. Hit more for some amazing photographs.
