'Archipelago 21' to turn Seoul into a global business hub

Winning entry of the master plan competition for the Yongsan International Business District of Seoul, South Korea, the “Archipelago 21″ by Studio Daniel Libeskind seems to transform the center of the South Korean capital into a global business hub. Slated to break ground in 2011 and completed by 2016, the $20 million master plan will accommodate a cluster of residential, office and retail neighborhoods in an extensive urban park on the banks of the Han River. The large-scale district by the South Korean conglomerate apart from the business hub will also include new cultural institutions, education facilities and rapid transportation systems to facilitate the residents as well as the employees flocking from all across the world. Spreading in 34 million sq ft riverfront area, the Archipelago 21 “reflecting the vertical and cultural complexity of the heart of Seoul,” is in fact “a 21st-century destination that is at once transformative, vibrant, sustainable and diverse.”
