Showcased at DMY Berlin Design Festival 09, the “Airpiano” by designer Omer Yosha is a musical interface that lets the musicians play and control the software of the instruments just by waving their hands in the air. Made from a virtual mix of keys and faders (assigned with MIDI messages) triggered by hand movement, the Airpiano drags the notes as long as the musician held his hand on the corresponding virtual key. In addition, the Airpiano supports the whole process by LED feedback to improve your next performance on the instrument. The Airpiano is designed under the theme “Let’s get physical - Arduino a new material design?,” which is an open-source electronics prototyping platform used for developing active designs without any external help from technicians or professionals. Sensing the environment by receiving input from external movements, the Arduino is for those looking to create interactive objects or environments by employing the sensors.
