A radio that thinks it's a time machine!
Naveen | Mar 16 2009

I just wish I could tune into my radio and go back in time any time to listen to the melodies of the past. Enter the Time Machine Radio, a radio that replaces the customary frequency scale with a time scale to go back in time. Simply set the knob of the radio back to any particular year, and the radio will start playing content from that period. You can even custom-set your preferences (say jazz, news or radio-theater), so that the radio just plays what you want to listen to. Although the radio has been primarily designed for elderly people, I don’t find any reason others can’t go for it. Coming to the design part, this radio was made after a series of interviews and analysis to help people re-live and refresh their memories. The prototype has an Arduino board that transfers data from the four knobs onto a Flash application, which runs on an Asus Eee 901 netbook. This is not a real time machine, but then, it takes you back in time and that’s cool enough.
